Hi Willem, I set the environment variable PRINTER to the name of my printer, and it acts as a default for the cups tools. My printer is an HP Officejet 4500, and the HP Deskjet 1010 works the same way. Does that work for you? Chuck -- Chuck in Ghent, northeast of Hudson on the Hudson.
