Andre,

I believe you don't have to remove Mandriva from your machine and have
to install Ubuntu/Slackware/.... ie, another distro to get your modem
working. I have Fedora installed on my home machines and on one of
them I have Slackware 12.2 installed and I have modem supported by
martian modem drivers. However, I won't encourage you to go that
route unless you want. If you want you may download Slax Linux Live
CD and run it from livecd.

http://www.slax.org/get_slax.php

You can run it from livecd/usb also. It will run on multiple
computers and you don't have to install it. There are plenty of
modules for programs that are not on the distro, so you can give it a
shot if you want to.

I have a module readily compiled that works for this modem(should
work, you may try it out)

http://www.slax.org/modules.php?action=detail&id=1038

If you decide to give Slax a try, and use the above module, let me
know how it works.

Regards,

Antonio
