Hi,
HDA vendor ID 0x14f12c06 is a Conexant HSF modem which is supported by
the latest version of the HSF driver available at:
http://www.linuxant.com/drivers/hsf/downloads-license.php
If the driver doesn't work, please send a dump generated by 'hsfconfig
--dumpdiag' to support@xxxxxxxxxxxx, we will try to solve the problem.

The system has
Intel Corporation 82801H (ICH8 Family) HD Audio Controller
PCI slot PCI ID SubsystemID Name
---------- --------- --------- --------------
00:1b.0 8086:284b 1028:01fe Audio device: Intel
Corporation 82801H
Sybsystem 1028:01fe having a softmodem chip 0x14f12c06
that is novel to us as constrasted to the older 0x14f12bfa ,
as shown by
/proc/asound/codec0/codec#1
Address: 1
Vendor Id: 0x14f12c06
Subsystem Id: 0x14f1000f
Revision Id: 0x100000
What are the Linuxant support prospects for "Alan Purchase"
<alan@xxxxxxxxxxxxxx> ??
Firas
FYI on the AP.tgz stuff
The virtual software generated /proc/asound file system cannot be
tar packed directly. That is why the preliminary:
$ cp -a /proc/asound AP
before packing with:
$ tar cfz AP.tgz AP/
Included within /proc/asound there will be included:
card0
|-- codec#0
|-- codec#1
One of the codec#? files will have audio info (and will be obvious)
and the other the modem info, if a modem chip is infact hosted.
Usually it is the /proc/asound/card0/codec#1

Hi Marvin,
Thanks for your speedy reply.
1. The file you requested is attached.
2. I don't run Windows and haven't done so for several years.
3. The Install failed; the log file is attached.
Cheers, Alan.

A softmodem chip is likely hosted by the SubSystem of
PCI slot PCI ID SubsystemID Name
---------- --------- --------- --------------
00:1b.0 8086:284b 1028:01fe Audio device: Intel
Corporation 82801H
The failure of the diagnostics to reveal more could have two alternate
causes.
1) The potential driver is snd-hda-intel already on your System.
It may not yet include support for the host 8086:284b host card
2) The softmodem chip may be a Conexant type which cannot be
supported by
snd-hda-intel
The next steps are:
1) Do:
$ cp -a /proc/asound AP
$ tar cfz AP.tgz AP/
Send the AP.tgz to me and Firas for deduction of the modem chip type.
2) If an alternative boot into Microsoft windows can be done, do mouse
clicks on:
Start > Settings > Control Panel > Classical View (for Window XP) >
System
> Hardware > Device Manager > Modems > Click on the + > Modem. Double
click to
expand the graphic. Manufacturer information may be displayed. For
example, CXT
stands for Conexant. Click the Diagnostics Tab. Record any hardware ID
or vendor
and device information.
Next do the Query Modem and record the ATI specifications displayed
such as:
ATI3 - Agere SoftModem Version 2.1.22
ATI5 - 2.1.22, AMR Intel MB, AC97 ID:SIL REV:0x27
Try to identify the modem setup file, with name perhaps MODEM.INF.
If may contain chipset Vendor informaton.
3) Do:
$ ./scanModem test 8086:2668 1025:008f
which will fake a Conexant modem on your System and ouput Info for
software installation. The INSTALL will abort if your modem is Not a
Conexant type.
So try the install package, whose diagnostics are very good.
