I used gtkterm after each connection and I connected lots of times and AT#UG showed it connected using V.34 and V.44 compression. The problem doesn't seem limited to the linuxant drivers; as I said same thing happened in windows without a 2.6.21 kernel or gentoo. Oh well. Maybe it's just a driver mistake, I mean the 12 kb/s speed result on dslreports and the 8,9-10 kb/s on iso download would suggest that. I didn't think you could go that high with a dialup modem. So I guess despite the connection speed reported it works rather well.
