Bernhard,
With your System============CPU=x86_64, Linux version 2.6.20-gentoo
and audio card: Class 0403: 10de:026c Audio device: nVidia Corporation MCP51 HighDefinition Audio Primary PCI_id 10de:026c Subsystem PCI_id 1043:1367
The softmodem chip 0x10573055:	/proc/asound/card0/codec#1-------------------------------Codec: Motorola Si3054Address: 1Vendor Id: 0x10573055=========
There are the following issues:
1) THis modem has been supported by the snd-hda-intel driver in thepast. But there is a bug in the current ALSAversion 1.0.14rc1 code,resulting in your reported problem message/var/tmp/portage/media-sound/alsa-driver-1.0.14_rc3/work/alsa-driver-1.0.14rc3/pci/hda/hda_codec.c:1739:hda_codec: model 'asus' is selected------See http://linmodems.technion.ac.il/bigarch/archive-seventh/msg00848.htmlUnfortuately the described patch hasn't as yet worked.See my companion email for a possible fix.
