slmodemd is in the Debian repositories, install it with
# apt-get install sl-modem-daemon
edit the configuration
# nano -w /etc/default/sl-modem-daemon
and restart it with
# /etc/init.d/sl-modem-daemon restart
Then use wvdial to connect :
# apt-get install wvdial
# wvdialconf /etc/wvdial.conf
# nano -w /etc/wvdial.conf
Fill in the phone number of your ISP as well as your login and
password and run
# wvdial
to connect.

i don't know why i do.
it work with Fedora core 6 with slmodemd on device hw:0,6
now in debian the device not found.
i can be upgrade with the new debain testing
