John, I own one of these: <http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.asp?Item=N82E16825104135> It performs very well under linux (I have tested on Debian, Ubuntu, SUSE and FC6) althought it might need some tweaking on the init strings. I got mine from ebay for about half this price, you could check it out. Regards, Carlos Marcano. On 21/01/07, John Roberts <jsrober@xxxxxxxxxxx> wrote:
Jacques, Fair enough. I understand that you (and the list) are only a source of information and not in a position to provide buying advice/decisions. I really appreciate all your hard work and the work of those who maintain the Modem Database website. I was hoping that someone else on the list might be in my position: need a modem for Linux and willing to buy anything on the market. The Modem Database is fantastic if you already have a modem and want to know if it is supported, but it is less suited to finding a list of supported modems that are available from reputable vendors. I'll keep searching and let you (and the list) know what I come up with. That way if someone else is building a Linux system and wants to buy a new modem they'll know of at least one viable option. Thank you very much for all the time you put into Linmodem support! John, It seems that I did not make myself clear enough. **WE ON THIS LIST** are not competent to direct you to a store and tell you what to purchase. Pointing to the best source of INFORMATION is **ALL** I can do. I would search for surplus modems and collate with Rob Clark's table, rather than the reverse, selecting a modem a priori and trying to find it in a store also selected a priori.
