It sure is (I already broke a nose of a colleague with my MacBook power cable).

In the hotel I was staying in during the Adelaide IETF, I did the power cable thing (which was even more essential in 2000 than it is now).
What then happened was that the security people showed up very quickly.
With a roll of gaffer tape.  Just for me sitting there for a quarter of an hour or so, they taped my cable down for me.
No drama.  I wish all meeting sites had security people like that...
