It does look fishy.  It's not at all clear whether or not
the IETF is paying for some of this, etc.  I'm trying to think
of something that's beyond reproach, and failing.  My mom, maybe.
And as I've said I'd like to participate in an IETF hackathon
(a Cisco one, not at all) but this was announced after I'd
already made my travel arrangements.

It's not *that* hard to send out email saying "Hey, we're
thinking of organizing a hackathon, anybody interested?"
It's unclear why nobody did that.
