Or we assign tasks to old-timers so they can learn not to.
In other words, they can spend all of their time politely explaining in detail why proposals are Bad Ideas, instead of getting useful work done.
Point to where the useful work will be done if we don’t stop this.

I think that Leif has a point. Treating new comers politely may take a bit more time in the short term than just telling them to go away with their bad ideas, but welcoming more participants in the IETF will definitely get more work done in the long term.
