In a different context, the observation was made that in order to get good art, you have to tolerate and/or support bad art.

I think that Leif has a point. Treating new comers politely may take a
bit more time in the short term than just telling them to go away with
their bad ideas, but welcoming more participants in the IETF will
definitely get more work done in the long term.
