"pip install --upgrade ..." (update?) has worked for me for years.

Is this documented anywhere prominently?   I see no mention of this on:

  * https://ietf.org/standards/ids/
  * https://xml2rfc.tools.ietf.org/
  * https://xml2rfc.tools.ietf.org/xml2rfcFAQ.html

How many places should someone have to look to find this?  It's not as
if "pip" is the obvious place to look, especially to someone who doesn't
use python regularly.   And even if one finds some version of this tool
somewhere, how is one to know which is the current version?

I *do* agree that this should be linked from one of the pages you mentioned.
