I never got around to trying it as my gimp builds and works, and at the time I didn't have the time to play. My point is that it *shouldn't* be run if I have given --disable-perl. This is IMHO a bug in the configure stage. If you'd like I'll remove plug-ins/perl/config.status and see what happens if it will help you resolve this but I still don't think that the plug-ins/perl directory should be touched if --disable-perl is given ...
