That error goes away if I remove the call to gtk_init() in multi-gegl.c;

I also experienced a crash in gtk_init(), although I was able to get a
backtrace. It seemed to be a bad interaction between SDL and gtk. I was
using SDL 1.2.10, and downgrading it alleviated the crash.
Interesting. I downloaded SDL 1.2.9, installed and re-compiled, and it
didn't crash anymore. I looked at the SDL site and found a number of
mentions of this in their newsgroup, so I guess it's a known issue.
Thanks for the info; I'll stick with SDL 1.2.9 for now.
