Ok. What will be replacing them? Adding automatically shared libs and
a wrapper to use added libs or system libs based on sonames? It could
inded help some users, especially if it is also attractive to those
(like me) who write themselves their Makefile and shell scripts (I would
never ever use a GUI to develop, but I guess eclipse can do portability
stuff on the command line).

In any case I doubt it may be as simple as what we have with static
libs, with statically linked executables created by adding -static to
the link command line...
