Regardless of user needs, the problem here is lack of maintainership resources. If nobody steps up to maintain old versions of Java, no amount of "user requests" are gonna keep those packages viable. Nb. I'm partly affected, as I run my home automation on an old OpenHAB1, requiring Java 1.8.0.
