The openSUSE Java team is one overworked guy who managed to bootstrap gradle 4 (iirc) a few years ago and now tries to put fires out whenever there is little time. We could try to coordinate & collaborate with him, but afaik neither openSUSE has a ton of manpower when it comes to Java.
