There have indeed been a few KMail regressions (especially with IMAP) which
slipped through, both in 3.5 times and in early 4.x times. I'll also clarify
that none of those regressions completely "broke IMAP support". What
happened is that some IMAP-related feature broke, affecting some users (and
I'm sorry you were hit by it), whereas most had their IMAP working just
fine. So those bugs weren't trivial to catch. I'm not claiming we're
perfect, nor that upstream KDE is. That said, we haven't had such issues
recently, so things seem to have improved there on the upstream side.

The Amarok rewrite was NOT pushed as an update. Fedora 9 stayed with 1.4.x
until Fedora 9's EOL. On the other hand, Fedora 10 shipped with a beta of
2.0 (for similar reasons as why F11 shipped with a Thunderbird beta: we knew
that the 2.0 release would be close, that upgrading from 1.4 to 2.x in
updates wasn't really an option and that 1.4 was being EOLed by upstream)
and tracked 2.0.x, 2.1.x and now 2.2.x, which were all incremental
improvements, not rewrites.
