Actually there is a slightly simpler fix which is:

su -
export PYTHONPATH=/usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages
yum update yum -y

There was also a proposed update for F10 which (I think) altered the python path so the upgrade was not broken (the F10 yum was still present but was functional), but this didn't make it beyond Koji.

This is still a bad situation to end up in, but it could have been worse!
