My recommendation: 
Get kernel-patch-xfs, kernel-patch-loop-jari, kernel-patch-cryptoapi and
make-kpkg --added_patch=xfs,jariloop,cryptoapi in your kernel source tree.

In the future I will package a kernel independend source package like
nvidia-kernel-src which can be built with any 2.4.x kernel.
