RBD support is currently disabled in qemu in Debian. There is a bug
report (#729961)[1] asking for it to be enabled. Once this is done and a ceph
backports is also available in Debian backports, a qemu backport with
rbd enabled can be done. As qemu is regularly backported I would expect
this to happen pretty soon after the preconditions are met.

The major blocker at the moment is that the version of ceph in Debian
testing is still 0.48-2. The main reason for this is that ceph is part
of several library transitions going on at the moment.

A recent ceph version needs to go into testing first as a precondition
for an official backport (to avoid upgrade issues when the next stable
version of Debian is released). And this is apparently also a
precondition for the qemu maintainers to enable rbd support.
