The priority airport standby is only valid if the fare that you paid =
permits
standby travel. Again they are only going to waitlist you for a flight =
if
your fare permits changes. I think they only board Gold members first =
on
international flights.

Well, this is what I was supposed to find when traveling on LH:

Star Alliance Gold benefits.

* Priority Reservations Waitlisting - when there aren't any seats left =
on
your preferred flight, gives you priority should a seat become =
available.
* Priority Airport Standby - gives you the flexibility to change plans =
at
the last minute when you don't have a reservation.
* Priority Airport Check-in - avoid long lines regardless of paid fare =
or
class of service.
* Priority Baggage Handling - like you, your bags get priority treatment =
and
are among the first to be unloaded.=20
* Extra Baggage Allowance - an additional 20kg (44 pounds) or one =
additional
piece of luggage which means you can check in three bags instead of two. =

* Priority Boarding - enjoy the freedom of boarding at your convenience
along with First and Business Class passengers.=20
* Airport Lounge Access - available worldwide for you and a friend when =
you
travel with any Star Alliance airline regardless of your class of =
travel.

What I ended up with is a 6 hour layover in FRA because LH would not let =
me
fly standby on one of the five flights to BCN that left before the one I =
was
scheduled on. Well, I could have taken an earlier one for 200 Euros. =
In
addition, LH would not let me upgrade or board early. When I was in FRA =
I
went to the UAL desk to complain about the service and they just shook =
their
heads at me. When I asked what the benefit of the Star Alliance =
actually
was then, they responded that they "didn't know."

Except that Star Alliance Gold cards mean nothing to them.

<<Sounds like the letter I need to write to United about LH service. =3D =
Can't
wait to see the response you get.>>

Um, LH's service is some of the best I have ever had. Certainly better =
=3D
than UA
