Well I would think its a big feature addition for 'repository providers'. They don't have to be stuck with yum-2.0 on their machines - if they want to provide both versions of the metadata. (they can now upgrade to yum-2.1x based machines and continue to provide both versions of the metadata) If a seaprate rpm can be easily created for yum-arch - it would fix this inconsistancy.
