Advantage is, a default setting can be shown — seems unclear how to show a default without them side by side, because the default shown should be the form. If the language is entirely wrong, that means the user has to depend on the Back button, which is completely non-obvious and not understandable even to some English speakers. Disadvantage of side by side is that it assumes a left to right reading and selection style, which isn't friendly to right to left languages.
