hi

1) yes, the .wav is on a hard disk. Its coming from a different partition.
2) so, i stopped by browsers and everything else and I was able to play my wav much longer without "aplay: pcm_write:1939: write error: No such device". I played up to 4 minutes now. getting better :-) But eventually got this error.
3) I have a USB keyboard hooked up to my USB ports and I don't think I can take it out.

Please copy your .wav file to your hard drive and try this again from there.

What else is hooked up to your USB ports?

I'm not certain that I'm following you completely here.

When you saw the error message, were you simultaneously using aplay to
play the file and using Chrome to navigate to some web site?

Ok so just to summarize:

- your aplay test should use a .wav file on your hard drive
- you should not be running anything else that you expect to use sound
(ie test one thing at a time)
- you should not have anything else hooked up to your usb ports
