Alas, it's the only way to know for > sure. ...and not knowing, *if* it *doesn't* solve the problem it would be back to square one without having learned much about any possible ALSA change that might be needed, And if it *did* solve the OP's problem the rest of use who may not all use Debian might not have learned much if we encounter a problem for the same actual unknown specific reason. I can see the point of trying if someone just wants a fix and doesn't mind about changing/upgrading disro as 'solution'. But I must admit I'm personally not keen on the idea of the "you have a problem, so just try a different distro" being the immediate first reaction. FWIW a year or two ago when quite new to modern Linux I 'solved' a problem by using pulse. Alas, this meant I didn't know *why* it worked. Since then I've found out more and also found that having pulse running has ended up making it harder for me to sort out other puzzles. This also makes me wary of doing things without knowing more. But maybe I am unusually concerned about trying to know what I'm doing. Have the engineer's curiosity about how things actually work - or don't! :-) But I realise others differ. Since this is an ALSA list, I'd personally kind of hope for a more alsa-based way to solve - *and understand* - problems like these. I admit I know little, but am trying to learn. TBH I'm not sure what point there is in joining an ALSA list if the 'solutions' offerred just tend to be 'Try and upgrade to your distro' or 'try jack / pulse / you_name_it instead ... :-/ Slainte, Jim -- Electronics http://www.st-and.ac.uk/~www_pa/Scots_Guide/intro/electron.htm Audio Misc http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/index.html Armstrong Audio http://www.audiomisc.co.uk/Armstrong/armstrong.html ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Special Offer-- Download ArcSight Logger for FREE (a $49 USD value)!
