I tried to get a question thru yesterday, but earthlink's mail server was quirky - only parts of it came thru, so I'd thought I'd try again. I have been unable to get X up and running on a Blue and White G3 with an ATI xclaim vr / rage pro. My yaboot.conf put together by the Yellow Dog Linux 3.0 installer added a kernel argument that causes the system to boot up into a mode not supported by the video card (append="video=ofonly") dmesg shows a line: Using unsupported 1280x1024 ATY,XCLAIMVRPro at 81000000, depth=8, pitch=1280 Console: switching to colour frame buffer device 160x64 fb0: Open Firmware frame buffer device on /pci@80000000/pci-bridge@d/ATY,XCLAIMVRPro@2 There are three kernels Iinstalled: 2.4.20-8d 2.4.20-8e 2.4.22-2g and I've tried changing *ofonly* to *atyfb* (on all three kernels) but can't even get a display in text mode from that. If anyone can help out, I'd be eternally greatful.
