force linear memory with vesa 1.2

Hi,

I've got a very old "graphics" card, a Tseng ET4000/W32p and the
tseng driver of course doesn't work. I tried thousands of monitor
timing settings, this card always whirls colors in 16bpp (none
of the possible -weight's worked) and the monitor problems get
even worse with 24bpp (don't know why the depth influences this).

However the "vesa" driver strangely sets up the correct video modes
(BTW the "vga" only works for 320x200).
The only problem with the vesa driver is, that it apperently can't
change back to the first 64K bank if in "ShadowFB" mode (only the
initial black/white dots background of X11 appears in the first 100
lines of the screen).
So is there a way to force this vesa driver into linear video
memory mode with this vesa 1.2 card if I could tell it the correct
place to write to. I found the "MemBase" directive in the man page
of XFree 4.1.0, but it doesn't seem to have any effect.

thanks for any idea,
mario
