Hi Thanks again for the help and the no HTML-mail and I will do line breaks. With the help of this site I have fixed most of my problems. #1 When I logout of the X11 Gnome desktop screen I get several error messages. Different if logged in as root and connor **WARNING** COBRA Exception (inner most last) (example of one message) /usr/lib/python1.5/site-packages/gtk.py line 130 in__apply__ret self(func.a) There is a screen full of messages and I can not find any log that has the errors. Ends with a MemoryError They are applet errors under /usr/lib/python1.5. I am trying to >> the screen to a file. No luck so far. My config file or drivrs must have problems. I downloaded and installed and NVIDIA_kernel-1.0-3123.rh73up_2.4.18_10.athlon.rpm NVIDIA_GLX-1.0-3123.i386.rpm Anyone have any ideas on the COBRA exception? Need more information? #2 an aside issue. "As the error description <boot problem> is very general ..." I have sent an email to RedHat for the boot problem. These are the messages that I receive when I boot from my HD. If you know of another newbie site or a resource that may help I appriciate it. Booting 'Red Hat Linux (2.4.18-10)' root (hd0,0) Filesystem type is ext2fs,partition type 0x83 kernal /vmlimu2-2.4.18-10 ro root=/dev/hda2 [Linux-bzImage,setup=0x1400,size=0xff8b0] Error 28: Selected item cannot fit into memory Press any key to continue... The system boots from floppy just fine. AMD MX 1800 processor, 512MB Ram, 80 GB HD Thanks, Michael Connor On 03.Okt 2002 - 17:37:14, Michael Connor wrote: > First, I want to thank the respondents. Should be no Problem, as your graphic card could do (theoretical) a resolution of 3739x2991 with 32 MB video memory, but that would probably burn your monitor ;-). My PC runs at 1600x1200 with a TNT2 and the nvidia-driver. > Second, When I quit the GUI it causes a memory fault. I've never used Redhat, but the log is needed to help you.=20 > COBRA error - followed by applet errors and finally a MemoryError > followed by 'waiting for X server to shutdown' message. The "waiting for X server to shutdown" is a normal message from X11 - the last one on the console and in the log. Maybe you should do a pstree while running X11 and look, which progs are started. Try to throw out the ones you don't need and see if some errors disappear. > I ran up2date and several package were selected. As the error description is very general I can't think of more. > I tried to run Xconfigurator and it hangs my system and I have to Are you sure your system hangs?! I know that some X-Config Programs don't really hang, but are using very much time to detect the hardware, try to change to another console or wait 10-20 minutes. > do a install / upgrade to get it to boot again.
