Run Xconfigurator, select custom monitor, then 800x600 @60Hz(just off 
the bottom of the small selection box.  Use down cursor), then 800x600 
again on color depth/res' page..  Assuming that works, go back thro the 
same, but when you get to the color depths/resolution page, select 
higher res'.
