What video chip is on your card? My Diamond Stealth VRAM had the basic S3 chip. This chip is not supported in xfree86 4.2.0 that comes with Red hat 7.3. I had to install the card as "unlisted" and then pick the s3 server. Still a poor choice. I had much better luck after I replaced my video card with one of two that use video chips supported in xfree86 4.2.0. One card has the S3 ViRGE/EX chip and the other has an SIS chip that is supported. Look at www.xfree86.org . They list the chipsets supported by the various versions of XFree86. Card: Diamond Stealth VRAM Linux Version: Redhat 7 I couldn't figure out what the ram on the card is, but no matter what I set it too, it would always only come in half way, and be very big. By half way I mean that only the bottom half of X was visible, the top half was completely dark. I could access the menu etc. but still only see up to the edge of the black.
