Just an idea: can you tell X in the config file to start up with zero contrast and then alter contrast again after an arbitrary time period when X presumably has been fully loaded? And being curious: when the display isn't meant to emit light, why run X anyway? In order to see something there must be some light coming from it, no? Hmm - another solution: turn down brightness and wear night vision goggles :) Dex
