Thank you. So far I've been looking at the wrong lists, published somewhere else. Now I'm one step further. It looks that there is no tested driver supporting the RAMDAC. Now I even know what a RAMDAC is, and after opening my computer I managed to find it. It is a 86C785. Now I even know what all these numbers are. So far I was even not aware that it is a S3 Trio64V4/GX. IBM has similar problems with some Netfinity servers. They provide now a patched driver for SuSE Linux. After I've got more insight now and reviewing all my notes I assume that this driver ist for XFree86 V3 (3.3) and not V4. Now, for the first time I managed to setup V4 (4.2) in a way it seems to work with a low resolution (640x480). This is a big suggess for me! I have not yet tried with 600x800 or SVGA. Sometimes, the right pointers are worth much more than great technical explanations. How could I oversee the Driver Status document in the V4 documentation.
