Yes, I am aware of Darwine but I've heard mixed opinions on how to
get it up and running. Some say Fink, some say Macports, others
say compile from source. However, at the same time, I've heard
complaints about all of the above options, particularly with
OpenGL support. I'm just wondering if there's anyone here who can
clear this up.
Thank you for the detailed response but do you suppose you could
elaborate a bit more on using a different X11? Like I said before,
my experience with Macs is a bit limited.
You could install X11 from either Fink or Macports and then build
Darwine using them. I have no use at this time for OpenGL as none of
the programs I run uses it. I use Fink for my ported software and
additionally recommend visiting the Fink web site for more information.
Darwine is not available as a Fink package. Darwine is not really
compatible with Fink, as it messes with freetype-config, and that
screws up X11 for some Fink packages. I found this out the hard way:

No strange occurrances of freetype-config on my system and I build and
install Darwine. I'm wondering why this happened.
