Dear Colleagues,

We would like to bring your attention to a poster-only session on “Advancing Earth Science through Geologic Mapping” at this year's AGU Fall Meeting (10-14 December, 2018) in Washington D.C. Geologic maps are the fundamental core upon which our derivative studies stand. This session will communicate the importance of geologic mapping in Earth science research to the international scientific community and would enable you to highlight how geologic mapping has been incorporated in your discipline-specific research.

Please consider submitting an abstract to this poster-only session. The deadline for all submissions is Wednesday, 1 August 23:59 EDT.

Session ID: 45382

Session Title: V003. Advancing Earth Science through Geologic Mapping

Description:

Geologic maps serve as baseline information for regional geologic framework models of the earth’s composition and structure.  They are essential for a wide range of investigations such as landscape evolution, eruptive histories of volcanoes, emplacement of intrusive bodies, tectonic history and crustal deformation as well as assessment of geologic hazards. Advances in mapping techniques, data processing, and integration of geophysics, geochemistry, and geochronology have expanded the traditional role of geologic maps. We invite contributions to this poster-only session that feature geologic mapping and derivative products that illustrate the critical role of geologic maps in understanding surficial and tectonomagmatic processes.

Session conveners are Ren Thompson, Joe Colgan, and Amy Gilmer
