Job Description:

The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR), a Tier 1 Research University, is
seeking an Associate Vice President for Research (AVPR). UNR is a land
grant institution and the leading research enterprise in the state of
Nevada. Current research expenditures exceeding $100 million are
expected to increase substantially as the university expects to
hire approximately 270 additional tenure-track faculty positions by
Fiscal Year 2021. The AVPR will work collaboratively with the Vice
President for Research and Innovation (VPRI), Assistant Vice Presidents
in the Office of the Vice President for Research and Innovation
(OVPRI), the Directors in the Research Division, Associate Deans for
Research in the various colleges, and with the Faculty Senate to develop
and implement a shared strategic research agenda. The AVPR will
participate in the development, implementation and maintenance of
institutional policies and regulations associated with research
administration.

The AVPR will manage and advance Interdisciplinary Research and
Undergraduate Research programs and oversee compliance issues that
emerge relative to these functions. Furthermore, a significant
responsibility will be to provide relevant information and training
opportunities to ensure the campus community is fully cognizant of
requirements associated with the grant proposal process and research
compliance. The AVPR will be charged with growing the research a
portfolio of the University. The AVPR will serve as the liaison
between the OVPRI and the Faculty Senate.

In close collaboration with the VPRI and the Directors of the Research
Division, the AVPR will be responsible for developing, implementing, and
managing the strategic plan for the Research Division. The AVPR will
partner with the Associate Deans for Research to advance a shared
research and development agenda among the various colleges, to
promote the efficacy of the services provided by the Research Division
and to promote the growth of the research infrastructure at UNR.

The successful candidate will have knowledge with respect to current
trends related to national, state, and private funding sources, as well
as regulatory requirements; will possess excellent written and verbal
communication skills; exceptional problem solving, decision
making, and analytical skills; and strong interpersonal supervision and
management skills. In addition, the successful candidate will have team
building skills that encourage collaboration, and a proven leadership
and strategic planning background.

Required Qualifications The minimum qualifications for this position are
a Doctorate Degree from an accredited institution and six years of
experience to include teaching and/or conducting research/scholarly work
that would qualify the individual for tenure at the associate or full
professor rank in an academic department; research administration
experience at the department/program/college level; and managerial
experience in a higher education setting.
