Assistant Professor, Department of Geological Sciences
The Department of Geological Sciences at the University of
Oregon invites applications for a tenure-track position to begin in the Fall of
2015 with a focus on volcanic processes.
We seek a dynamic scientist who investigates volcanic eruptions through
studies of conduit processes, magma fragmentation, plume behavior, and/or the
transport and deposition of lava and tephra. We are particularly interested in candidates who integrate
field observations with remote sensing, textural, geochemical, experimental
and/or theoretical modeling approaches.
The successful candidate will be expected to develop a laboratory in
their area of specialization. They
will also have access to existing stable isotope, FTIR spectroscopy, and
experimental petrology labs as well as the microanalytical facilities in the
University’s Center for Advanced Materials Characterization (SEM, EPMA, EBSD,
TEM, FIB, TOF-SIMS; http://camcor.uoregon.edu/)
and the University’s high-performance computing facility (http://aciss-computing.uoregon.edu/).
We seek a candidate who will complement our existing strengths in volcanology,
petrology, geochemistry, seismology, geodynamics, and Earth surface processes.
The successful candidate will be expected to establish a
vigorous, externally funded research program, contribute to the mission of the
department in undergraduate and graduate education, and engage in departmental
and university service. A Ph.D. is required at the time of appointment.
Applicants must apply at Academic Jobs Online http://academicjobsonline.org/ajo/jobs/4218, where they should upload an application letter, a current
curriculum vita, a two-page statement of current and future research, and a
one-page teaching statement. When notified by email, they should arrange to
have three to four letters of recommendation uploaded at the same site. Further inquiries concerning this
search should be sent to geosearch@xxxxxxxxxxx,
posting 14272. Review of applications will begin on Jan. 5, 2015, and will
continue until a suitable candidate is identified.
