Dear colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to a session on Integrated Studies of Magmatic Systems in Time and Space (08a) at the Goldschmidt 2014 meeting in Sacramento, CA. We invite contributions from geochemical, geophysical, petrological and modelling perspectives.

The keynote will be given by Ken Rubin, SOEST/University of Hawai’i and an invited contribution will be presented by Caroline Bouvet de Maisonneuve, EOS.

Session description:

Magmatic systems and the associated volcanic phenomenon are widely thought to be the products of a range of processes, including melting of a heterogeneous source, melt segregation and transport, and finally, mixing, differentiation, and contamination in crustal magma chambers. However, the relative influence of these various processes in controlling the temporal and spatial evolution of magmatic systems remains a matter of active debate. Modern approaches to understand these processes increasingly focus on integrating diverse data sets, from geochemistry, geophysics, petrology and other sources. This session aims to bring together topics that address the temporal and spatial evolution of magmatic systems at mid-ocean ridges, intraplate settings and subduction zones integrating and applying diverse datasets particularly on active and young volcanic systems. We encourage contributions on the timescales of melt formation, ascent, storage, contamination, and differentiation from experimental, numerical modelling, petrological, geochemical and geophysical approaches.
