The Department of Geology and Planetary Science
(http://www.geology.pitt.edu) at the University of Pittsburgh invites
applications for a full-time visiting assistant professor position beginning
in the Fall of 2014.  The position is outside of the tenure stream and
renewable for up to two years, pending budgetary approval.  The successful
candidate will be expected to teach both undergraduate core curriculum
courses including Petrology and Geomorpholgy, as well as graduate courses
such as Volcanology and Planetary Geology that fall within the candidate's
area of expertise. The position may include serving on MS and PhD student
committees as well as directing undergraduate research projects.  The
Department offers an undergraduate certificate program in GIS/RS, a
professional M.S. degree in GIS/RS (http://pro-ms.geology.pitt.edu/) and
graduate degrees ranging from MS to PhD.

We are interested in a colleague with research expertise that integrates
well with current departmental directions as described on our website.  Of
particular interest is a background in one or more of the following areas:
volcanology/petrology, planetary surface processes, remote sensing (RS) of
natural systems, and the use of geographical information system (GIS)
modeling.  Skills with computer networks are also especially desirable. And
although not required, the candidate can also develop their own
externally-funded research program.

Applicants should email questions and the following materials to the
Visiting Assistant Professor Search Committee (visitsrc@xxxxxxxx): 1) a CV
(including past and current grant support), 2) statements of teaching and
research interests, 3) copies of 3 relevant publications, and 4) names and
contact information of four references. A Ph.D. is required at the time of
appointment

Review of applicants will begin on February 1, 2014 and proceed until the
position is filled. The University of Pittsburgh is an equal
opportunity/affirmative action employer.  Applications from women and
members of minority groups are especially encouraged.
