This Masters (MSc) course, which runs for one year or two years part-time, provides training for future volcanologists amongst one of largest groups of volcanologists and environmental scientists in the UK.

Taught modules cover volcanic processes from theoretical, laboratory-based and field perspectives, together with other geological and environmental hazards. Fieldwork includes a highly popular trip to Etna, and visits to fascinating Ordovician volcanic rocks in the nearby Lake District. We offer a wide range of optional modules<http://www.lec.lancs.ac.uk/postgraduate/masters/courses/volcanology-and-geological-hazards> including Geoinformatics, Environmental Management and Isotope Geochemistry.

All MSc students can carry out a substantial volcano-related research project in collaboration with one of the many internationally-recognized geoscience experts in the Lancaster Environment Centre<http://www.lec.lancs.ac.uk/research/environmental_geosciences/>. Our areas of research expertise include subglacial eruptions in Iceland, basaltic lava flow emplacement, ash generation and transport, conduit flow models and magma degassing.

The MSc is designed to attract students from a wide range of backgrounds and prepares you for PhD studies or a wide range of environmental jobs. Lancaster<http://www.lancs.ac.uk/about-us/rankings-and-reputation/> is one of Britain's top teaching and research universities, consistently ranked amongst the leading universities in the UK. The historic city<http://www.lums.lancs.ac.uk/about/area/> is located close to the Lake District National Park and has good travel connections to Manchester and London. Applications from UK and overseas students are equally welcomed.
