Dear Colleagues,

Just received this notice:

At 18:00 on Friday 29th February IGC had about
4000 people with abstracts in the process of
registering. Some people were leaving things a
bit late, others had technical difficulties
(particularly MACitis) and some had credit card
hang-ups. Others just asked for a little more
time. So a decision was made to reduce the stress
and extend the deadline to the end of this week.

at http://www.33igc.org

So, we would like to invite you again to submit an abstract to our
symposium on volcano flank instability (GHZ-08).

Why not enjoy Oslo en route to IAVCEI in Iceland !

The symposium has the code GHZ-08 and is grouped within Geohazards with
the following
description:

'Volcanic edifices are now recognised as inherently unstable
constructions where flank collapse(s) at a range of scales can be
expected as a normal part of their life cycles. Moreover, depending
on volcano location, such instability can trigger related phenomena,
notably debris avalanches, lateral blasts and tsunami; hazards to
which an increasing number of the world's population are exposed.
Only fairly recently has research begun to reflect a
multi-disciplinary approach, including studies of active volcanoes,
deeply eroded inactive volcanic systems, as well as laboratory studies
and modelling. The symposium aims to bring together structural
geologists, volcanologists, petrologists, analogue and numerical
modellers, remote sensing specialists, geomorphologists,
geophysicists, engineering geologists and hazard mitigation
researchers so that their differing viewpoints and insights into these
phenomena can be beneficially exchanged. The symposium will be held
under the aegis of International Lithosphere Programme (ILP) project
'New tectonic causes of volcano failure and possible premonitory signals.'

New extended abstract deadline is Friday 7 March 2008.
