Dear Colleagues,

We would like to draw your attention to the session 1-i "Magma movement"
(http://www.jardvis.hi.is/page/I08-SYM1#1-i) at the IAVCEI 2008 General
Assembly in Reykjavik, Iceland, on 17-22 August 2008, and invite you to
contribute:

Magma is a dynamically-evolving mixture of three phases with very different
physical properties: gas bubbles (compressible, buoyant, low viscosity);
crystals (incompressible, rigid); liquid (incompressible, high viscosity).
Together, these three phases drive and mediate magma flow, and are
ultimately responsible for the great richness of physical behaviour
exhibited by volcanic and magmatic systems.
This session will explore the causes and consequences of magma movement in
the subsurface, and the physical properties and processes that mediate it.
We invite contributions, based upon laboratory experiments, analogue or
conceptual models or numerical simulations, which consider any aspect of
the movement of magma.

The session will focus on:
- Triggering and driving of magma flow
- Multiphase magma properties and processes
- Magma rheology
- Bulk magma fluid dynamics and geometry of magmatic plumbing systems
- The fate of magma; emplacement vs. eruption
- Relationship between subsurface movement and eruption (location, timing,
style)

The abstract submission deadline is 1 April 2008. Information on abstract
submission and registration procedures can be found at
http://www.iavcei2008.hi.is/page/I08-intro.

Best wishes,
