Trapping closures lifted along Ketchikan area trails KETCHIKAN, Alaska,– Forest Service trapping closures along Ketchikan area trails have been
lifted as of Nov. 6, 2018. Forest Supervisor Earl Stewart made the decision after review of feedback from the public meeting held on October 17,
2018 and after reviewing applicable law and Forest Service policy. The temporary, emergency closure (Order No.: 10-05-52-14-01) signed on May 19, 2014, prohibited trapping within 150 feet of trails and campgrounds along the Ketchikan road system. This
emergency closure was intended to be temporary, as the U.S. Forest Service does not manage fish, wildlife harvest, or trapping regulations. Trapping activity in Alaska is regulated by the Alaska Department of Fish and Game. The Forest Service reminds those recreating on National Forest System Lands to follow
state laws regarding hunting, fishing, and trapping. Forest users are also reminded to be aware of their surroundings when using trails. Keep children on trails. National Forest guidelines require that dogs be on a six-foot
leash at all times when in developed recreation areas and on interpretive trails. There are no leash requirements in the general forest areas.
