Kaibab Forest To Close Some Recreation Areas For Winter Season

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Some recreation areas on the Williams and Tusayan districts of the Kaibab National Forest will soon be closed for the winter season.

On the Williams Ranger District, the last night to camp at White Horse and Dogtown lake campgrounds will be Sept. 28, while the last night for Kaibab Lake Campground will be Sept. 29.  Dogtown and Kaibab lake day-use areas will remain open.  The gate to Cataract Lake will be closed Oct. 1, but foot access to the area will continue to be allowed.

At Ten-X Campground on the Tusayan Ranger District, the last night to camp will be Sept. 30.

The Kaibab National Forest currently has two historic cabins available to be rented by the public.  Hull Cabin on the Tusayan Ranger District will close for the season Oct. 1.  Spring Valley Cabin and its bunkhouse are available to be rented year-round through a national reservation system, www.recreation.gov, 1-877-444-6777.  However, road access to Spring Valley Cabin will be closed Dec. 1 or after the first significant snow event.  The cabin is still accessible by foot during winter months.

For additional information about recreational opportunities, call the Williams Ranger District at 928-635-5600 or the Tusayan Ranger District at 928-638-2443.  Recreation information is also available at www.fs.usda.gov/kaibab.
