Southeast Alaska Discovery Center announces winter hours
KETCHIKAN, AK, September 23, 2013—The Southeast Alaska Discovery Center winter hours will begin on September 29, 2013. The lobby area and theater will be open and free to the public on Fridays from noon to 8 p.m. The first Friday opening is October 4, 2013. In an effort to reduce costs, the exhibits are anticipated to be closed until April 18, 2014. The Alaska Geographic Association Book Store closes for the season at 3 p.m. on September 27, 2013.
Movies are scheduled each Friday starting at 3 p.m. The Friday Night Insight speaker programs will begin November 1 at 7 p.m. The winter schedule of events will be available at the Center, or online at www.alaskacenters.gov/ketchikan.cfm.
Take advantage of National Public Lands Day to view the exhibits one last time this year. On Saturday, September 28, 2013 from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., the Southeast Alaska Discovery Center will be open and free to the public. A volunteer work project takes place from 10 a.m. to noon. Bring your gloves (and rain gear if needed) and help clean up litter and remove weeds from the gardens surrounding the center. Afterwards, enjoy a free barbeque.
