Logging to begin near Mountainaire, residents may hear machinery

Flagstaff, AZ – As part of ongoing efforts in the Mountainaire Forest Health and Fuels Reduction Project, contractors will begin to thin approximately 2000 acres of National Forest southwest of Mountainaire off Forest Road 700H, using the Kelly Canyon/Interstate 17 interchange. Nearby residents might hear machinery during operations.

Preliminary work to prepare roads for logging equipment started this week. Though roads within the project area will be bladed, they remain closed to public wheeled vehicles. Operations will continue over the next several months – possibly up to May, pending weather conditions.

Visitors and residents should use caution while in the area. Be aware of working crews and heavy equipment.

For additional information, contact the Flagstaff Ranger District at 928-526-0866.
