Applicants Sought for National Forest Resource Advisory Committee

Candidates for membership are needed for the Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage Borough and the Prince William Sound Resource Advisory Committees advising the Chugach National Forest under the recently reauthorized Secure Rural Schools and Community Self-Determination Act (Public Law 112-141).  The committees are chartered by the U.S. Department of Agriculture under the Federal Advisory Committee Act and consist of 15 members and 3 alternates each representing a wide array of interests.  The committees have the following vacancies for members to represent the following interests:

 

Kenai Peninsula-Anchorage Borough Resource Advisory Committee (KPAB RAC)

* Organized labor or non-timber forest product harvester groups

* Developed outdoor recreation, off-highway vehicle users, or commercial recreation

* Commercial timber industry

* Regionally or locally recognized environmental organization

* Category replacements

 

Prince William Sound Resource Advisory Committee (PWS RAC)

* Hold state elected office or their designee

* Affected public-at-large

* Category replacements

 

Committee members review and make recommendations concerning project proposals on or benefiting the national forest to be funded under Title II of the Act.  In 2012, the committees made recommendations concerning projects in the Anchorage Borough, Kenai Peninsula Borough, and the Communities of Prince William Sound, Alaska with an estimated total value of $2,812,000. 

Individuals may nominate themselves or others, but the nominees must live within the State of Alaska.  The application form and additional information can be obtained from:
