Tentative prescribed fire plans through the week of Oct 11
Flagstaff, AZ – Pending favorable conditions, fire managers are planning prescribed fires on several projects next week. Fire managers work hard to address the critical need for reducing the risk of severe wildfires near homes and neighborhoods while minimizing smoke impacts to communities.
In addition, fire managers on the Coconino National Forest coordinate prescribed fire plans with the partners in the Ponderosa Fire Advisory Council (which includes local fire departments), as well as neighboring forests, to reduce the chances of multiple prescribed fire projects impacting one area.
All prescribed fire activity is dependent on weather – including ventilation conditions, personnel availability, and approval from the Arizona Department of Environmental Quality (www.azdeq.gov).
No prescribed fire activity is planned for Friday October 8 and Monday, October 11.
Due to weather conditions and tornado damage response on the Coconino National Forest, no prescribed fire activity is anticipated until late next week.
Possible projects for the week:
Oak Creek Canyon slash pile burning.
APS Project north of Hwy 87 and the Mogollon Rim/Blue Ridge Ranger Station.
Upper Beaver Creek Project near the junction of Stoneman Lake Road and Lake Mary Road (Forest Highway 3)
