Pile Burning to Continue
on Williams Ranger District

WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Kaibab National Forest fire managers plan to continue burning slash piles this week on the Williams Ranger District, pending favorable weather conditions and Arizona Department of Environmental Quality approval.  The piles are located north and south of Signal Hill, due west and northwest of Williams.

Managers are requesting approval to burn about 48 acres of piles Wednesday, Oct. 6 in the City planning unit. The piles are south of Signal Hill and north of I-40 between exit 161 and Devil Dog Road.

Later in the week, approximately 200 acres of piles are available for burning north of Signal Hill near Holden Lake. The Holden Lake piles may be burned in 100-acre blocks over two days.

Piles are made of stacked tree slash cut during thinning projects. The goals of thinning and pile burning are to reduce fire hazard and protect communities. For more information about prescribed fires, please call Punky Moore, Fire Information Officer, 928-635-5653.
