Revised Prescribed Burn Plans for
Williams Ranger District
WILLIAMS, Ariz. – Fire managers have revised the plan for prescribed burning this week on the Frenchy Prescribed Burn Project. The project area is located about eight miles east of Williams on the Williams Ranger District. Pending favorable conditions and approval from Arizona Department of Environmental Quality, fire crews are prepared to conduct the following burns:
Wednesday, Sept. 29 – 122 acres south of Interstate 40 and northeast of Mineral Lake
Thursday, Sept. 30 – 223 acres north and east of Sherwood Forest Estates
Ignitions will begin early in the morning to allow for maximum smoke dispersal. The forecast for Wednesday is mostly sunny and warm with light south winds. According to fire managers smoke should disperse north and northeast during operations and settle south and west overnight. Smoke will linger for several days after the burn.
Our prescribed burns are part of an ongoing effort to ensure that future fires in the area remain at a lower level of intensity, thereby protecting firefighters and the community.
